21st Amendment Brewery - Back in Black

I personally try and stay away from beer in a can, but I fell prey to the marketing gimmicks of this brewing company, and I decided to go ahead and purchase a six pack of this beer. This beer had a nice horse drawn carriage on the front and reminded me of the headless horseman story, the art was very nice, so I should have known that the brewery didn't produce excellent beer, but to find the best thing out there, you have to try new things. Beer in cans is lighter, easier to cool, and doesn't transfer taste to the beer, but I am still not sold on the whole beer in a can thing yet. This beer I am giving 2/5 stars, it was dark, but not very flavorful. It was difficult to get a good poor out of the cans as well, but it was nice to put them in the fridge and have them cold in 20 minutes. This beer had a slight hint of coffee and chocolate, so here is the verdict... This beer was reasonable priced (about $8 for a six'er), so if you are looking to bring a beer to a friends house or a party (and you are looking for something that is decently priced, dark, and isn't very heavy to carry) try this beer out, its much better than Bud or Coors.

Lagunitas - India Pale Ale

Laguniats make a very hoppy IPA, not like stone hoppy or anything, but hoppy none-the-less. This beer gets 3.5/5 stars when it comes to IPA, very nice for the price. This guy will usually set you back about $8-$10 at a liquor or grocery store. I personally like to drink an IPA to mix it up every once in a while, I usually drink lots of dark beer, then switch to an IPA for something different.

Gimbergen - Double Ale

Grimbergen is another beer I picked up from whole foods, this puppy usually sells for about $9-$10 for a six pack. I was trying to find the taste difference between a double and a triple. Gribergen is dark and full of flavor, but in my opinion a little over powering. I give this beer 2.5/5 stars. If you are looking for dark and heavy and you are ready to get your ass kicked by a big brute of a beer, then this might be for you... it might also be a good desert beer, with fruit and some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Leffe - Blond

When I lived in the country I drank quite a bit of Widmer as it was $11 for a 12 pack. When I moved to Lake Merritt (Oaktown) I found that beer was much more expensive. This gem is $10 a 6 pack, but it is very good, I am giving this beer 4/5 stars. This is a Belgian Abbey Ale, light and sweet, with a small hint of woody after tones. This beer will get you through those summer months when you want something light, but you still want quality.
